This was the first meeting of these four musicians, although Coulter and Facey had previously worked together, and Sexton and Lowe had worked together too. The context for this project was the Creative Music Series (2019-2021) founded and curated by Coulter in Casper, WY. As evidenced by this recording, the quartet had an instant rapport and shared the musical languages of jazz, free improvisation, and noise. Their melding of acoustic and electronic sounds is fluid, often confounding the listener. Their playing complements, contrasts, and pushes forward in constant new directions, generating complex, unexpected sound worlds. SeFa LoCo comes from the first two letters of each player’s last name with sefa meaning “delight” in Turkish and loco meaning “mad” in Spanish.
